The crawl-to-referral ratio measures how many times an AI bot crawls your site for every one visitor it sends back. A lower ratio means more efficient traffic generation - fewer crawls wasted, more actual visitors delivered.

Compare this to ClaudeBot at 23,951:1. Claude's bot crawls nearly 24,000 pages for every single referral visitor, consuming server resources while returning almost no traffic. GPTBot falls in the middle at 1,276:1, far better than ClaudeBot but still an order of magnitude less efficient than Perplexity.
Why Perplexity is more efficient
Perplexity includes inline citations with clickable links in every response. When Perplexity answers a query, it displays numbered source links. Users can click to visit the original content. This differs from ChatGPT, which sometimes includes links. Claude rarely provides clickable sources.
